Dr. Volker Wannack is CEO and Managing Partner of the Blockchain Competence Center Mittweida (BCCM) Inkubator GmbH and Head of Blockchain & AI in the Energy Sector at the Blockchain Competence Center of the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida (Germany). He holds a PhD in Economics, specializing in energy, regulation, and investment economics, and a Diploma in Industrial Engineering (energy supply). An internationally recognized economist and innovation leader, Dr. Wannack combines strategic industry experience, academic excellence, and technological foresight. Having held senior management positions in the energy sector—spanning asset management, network sales, and network services across electricity, gas, water, and district heating—he now drives blockchain- and AI-enabled transformation across the energy, circular-economy, and industrial domains. His flagship initiatives include the Blockchain-based Hydrogen Market (BBH₂) and the Blockchain & AI Showcase Region Mittweida, pioneering digital infrastructures for sustainable, transparent, and sovereign value chains. Through his global collaborations across industry, research, and policy, Dr. Wannack helps shape the future of digital trust, sovereignty, sustainability, and energy innovation in Europe and beyond.
